Session overview

Professor Richard Ramano will give attendees a presentation and tour of the University’s new simulator based project. Virtuocity is a major new initiative that combines the strengths of the HEFCE-funded University of Leeds Driving Simulator (UoLDS); the EPSRC funded National Facility for Innovative Robotic Systems; the Advanced Research Computing service; and the ESRC Consumer Data Research Centre, providing a unique multi-disciplinary centre in the UK focused on using Virtual Reality, Simulation, Modelling and Data Visualisation to investigate how our future cities, and the society at large, will be affected by development of new technologies.

As part of Virtuocity, the Institute for Transport Studies has recently integrated both a pedestrian simulator and a heavy goods vehicle simulator to expand on the capabilities of the existing driving simulator: UoLDS.  Human centred research is looking at the interactions between drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists with future transport systems such as automated vehicles.  New Virtual Reality capabilities based on Unity and integration of a range of micro-simulation models are being integrated to support the research.”

Duration: circa 4/4:30pm.
